The Orion Short Tube 80 OTA is an improved version of the original Orion ShortTube 80 telescope, with fully multi-coated optics that reveal brighter, sharper images. Add your own accessories to the Orion ShortTube 80 and it will become a fantastic astronomy telescope that is portable enough to take anywhere. The 80mm objective lens and short 400mm (f/5.0) focal length are perfect for taking in wide swaths of the heavens, making it ideal for larger deep-sky objects. You'll see spectacular star clusters, wispy nebulas, and expansive galaxies with this telescope, but it also excels at viewing objects in our solar system. Multi-coating on all air-to-glass optical surfaces of the Orion ST80 ensures maximum light transmission for sharp, accurate image fidelity.

 

If you are looking for a lightweight, fast guidescope, consider the Orion ShortTube 80 OTA. It will attach easily to your larger primary telescope tube assembly with the proper rings and dovetail, and will accept your digital SLR, small CCD camera, or a stand-alone autoguider. Add your favorite telescope eyepieces, correct-image or mirror diagonal, and finder scope or reflex sight (all sold separately) and you'll have a high-functioning instrument customized for any adventure!

The ShortTube 80 Refractor Telescope OTA measures 15" in length and its fixed aluminum dew shield extends 3-1/4" out from the objective lens, preventing dew formation and blocking off-axis glare. The eyepiece holding collar on the focuser drawtube has 2 thumbscrews to ensure lockdown of your guide camera or diagonal. The end of the collar is even threaded with male T2 threads, allowing threaded attachment of a DSLR directly to the focuser (with proper T-ring) for photography.
