This all-inclusive imaging package from SBIG will allow you to take stunning astro-images with ease. The SBIG STC-7 features an ultra-sensitive and low noise 7 megapixel cooled CMOS sensor, integrated 8 position filter wheel, a complete set of LRGB and narrowband filters, and an opaque filter for making dark frames. You'll be able to easily connect the STC-7 to your telescope using either the front T-thread mount or the included 2" focuser adapter. The integrated filter wheel design ensures minimal back-focus distance to provide maximum compatibility.
This STC-7 package also includes the software program MaxIm LT for Windows- giving you the opportunity to take images, calibrate, stack, and do essential image processing. Other software is supported via the included ASCOM drivers. MacOS and Linus drivers are also available. To further enhance your STC-7, it is compatible with the SBIG StarChaser SC-2 off-axis guide camera. The StarChaser also supports the SBIG AO-8A adaptive optics accessory, helping you get pinpoint star images.
CMOS Image Sensor
The STC-7 utilizes the sophisticated SONY IMX-428 CMOS imaging sensor, giving you higher sensitivity, lower read noise, and much faster readout. It is able to produce extremely clean images with few hot pixels. Due to these features, the STC-7 is best used with shorter sub-exposures than for comparable CCD cameras. A typical sub-exposure will be only 30-60 seconds (versus 5-10 minutes) while achieving the same or better noise performance and overall dynamic range after stacking your images. The advantages to this includes your ability to take unguided exposures without trailing, as well as imaging lunar and planetary objects at high resolution. The STC-7 is optimal for telescopes that have a focal length between 1000 - 1500 mm. Longer focal lengths can be used for lunar and planetary imaging.
Stack Pro
The revolutionary Stack Pro feature will perform image stacking inside of the STC-7 CMOS camera! While the IMX-428 sensor has dynamic range that is on par with its CCD predecessor, it is limited to 12 bit data and has far lower read noise, meaning you can stack several more shorter exposures without degrading signal-to-noise ratio. This, in turn, results in a lot of extra disk usage and post-processing. Stack Pro performs the stacking automatically inside of the camera. It subdivides your exposure into up to 16 individual sub-exposures and stacks them inside the camera prior to download, eliminating the excessive amounts of data cluttering your hard drive.
